Visiting Muenster Texas - A German Town in Texas

Image
Muenster Texas is located in north Texas, about 90 minutes north of DFW.  Settled in 1889 by German Catholics as westward expansion occurred with the railroad coming through this area.  The German culture lives strong in this town today that has a population of 1,418 people.  Muenster is known for its two annual festivals celebrating the German culture.  German Fest is held in April each year and Oktoberfest in October each year. Fisher's Thriftway 304 N Main St. Muenster, TX 76252 940-759-4211 Website Closed on Sundays When you visit Muenster, you want to take a cooler with you because one of the town's highlights is the food options in town.  The highlight of your food options will be Fisher's Thriftway.  This market has all the standard grocery items, but what makes it unique are the specialty German foods.  Decorated like a German-style building with a clocktower, the German spirit grows as you go inside. The best place to start is in the back of the store.  As you are

California Cheese Trail

While visiting the Cowgirl Creamery Barn Store in Point Reyes Station, I learned bout the California Cheese Trail from a brochure.  I love the idea of any type of food or beverage trail, so I grabbed the brochures and started looking at them.  I was surprised to learn how many different creameries there were in the state of California.  I enjoy visiting cheese factories and buying cheese directly from the factory where you find many different varieties of cheese that you will not find in stores because they are done in small batches.  We were only able to visit one of the creameries while we were on our trip.  We could have done a lot more if we had known about the cheese trail ahead of time. We visited the Cowgirl Creamery .  I am looking forward to our next trip to California with this map of locations in hand to visit many more of the state's cheesemakers.     For more on the California Cheese Trail, visit https://cheesetrail.org/ .  They also have an app for your phone tha

They have a nice retail space and a little kitchen where you can order a grilled cheese sandwich made with their cheese. We purchased some Mt Tan cheese from the creamery and Point Reyes Blue, some crackers, a cheese knife, and a grilled cheese sandwich and we had lunch for three taken care of. There is really nowhere to eat outside that is very comfortable, and there is no eating inside at all. There are some planters and benches that you can sit on, on the side of the building and we made that work. The grilled cheese was cooked
