Best Maid Pickle Emporium

Image
I absolutely love travel locations that focus on food, so it should not be a surprise that I had to visit the Best Maid Pickle Emporium.  Living in Texas for 12 years, Best Maid Pickles are a part of the local food culture.  Best Maid Pickles have been being produced since 1947 in the same factory since 1947.  They have grown and changed with the times, so they now offer a wider variety of pickle options.  I love trying different types of pickles and love to snack on a jar of pickles while I am preparing dinner.    The Pickle Emporium is Best Maid's latest addition, providing pickle lovers a place to come and find everything possible related to pickles.  While 90% of the Pickle Emporium is focused on merchandise and food items, there are a few displays that show the pickle making process.  The store is just a fun place to visit and Smily, the Best Maid character is standing proudly over the store.  If you are coming for food items you will not be disappointed.  You will find pickle

Visiting Muenster Texas - A German Town in Texas

Image
Muenster Texas is located in north Texas, about 90 minutes north of DFW.  Settled in 1889 by German Catholics as westward expansion occurred with the railroad coming through this area.  The German culture lives strong in this town today that has a population of 1,418 people.  Muenster is known for its two annual festivals celebrating the German culture.  German Fest is held in April each year and Oktoberfest in October each year. Fisher's Thriftway 304 N Main St. Muenster, TX 76252 940-759-4211 Website Closed on Sundays When you visit Muenster, you want to take a cooler with you because one of the town's highlights is the food options in town.  The highlight of your food options will be Fisher's Thriftway.  This market has all the standard grocery items, but what makes it unique are the specialty German foods.  Decorated like a German-style building with a clocktower, the German spirit grows as you go inside. The best place to start is in the back of the store.  As you are

Eating Las Vegas - Thai Food

Lotus Siam  935 E Sahara Ave. Suite A5 Las Vegas, Nevada 89104 702-735-3033 https://lotusofsiamlv.com/ Food: 4.5 Stars Service: 4 Stars Location : 3 Stars The Lotus Siam is a well renowned Northern Thai cuisine restaurant in Las Vegas that is located off the strip, but close enough that it is easy to access.  It has been recognized by many media outlets like the Food Network, Saveur, Gourmet, and the travel channel.  I learned about it from a good friend who visits the restaurant frequently when he comes to the Vegas area.  He had recently retired so I wanted to take him to a place that he really enjoys.  My friend warned me that this restaurant was located in a strip mall and not to judge it by the outward appearance.  Once you walk in you will be amazed at how large the restaurant it and you are greeted by the wine cellar which has over 300 different bottles of wine for you to choose from.  The seating is pretty standard for a Thai food eatery and it is not trying to put on the Veg

Nova Scotia - Lobster Trail

Image
The oceans off the coast of Nova Scotia are the perfect habitat for a culinary treat of the ocean, the Lobster.  The Nova Scotia lobster fishery is a part of life in the province as the number one seafood exporter in the country.  The lobsters off the coast of Nova Scotia are known for their hard shells and the meatiness of the lobster inside.  Lobster is a sustainable food source and the fisheries off of Nova Scotia are managed to make sure that there are fisheries open but that no single area is overfished.  It should be no surprise then that lobster is a focal point of many culinary gems.  You can eat lobster for every meal of the day if you want, which a must admit I did while I was there. Probably the best known way that we think of lobster being prepared is the old fashioned lobster boil.  The lobster is cooked in salted water, oftentimes with corn and potatoes and is served on a platter in all it's glory.  The bright red shell pulls you in as you put your bib around your n

Best Place to have Super-fantastic Hawaiian BBQ in DFW

Image
When we moved from Spokane to DFW one of the food options I missed right away was authentic Hawaiian BBQ.  I am a huge fan of teriyaki chicken with steamed rice and mac salad, otherwise, know as a blue plate special.  I have searched the DFW area and found three Hawaiian BBQ locations that serve authentic Hawaiian BBQ. #1 - Shaka Hawaiian BBQ Shaka Hawaiian BBQ is the newest entry on the list and takes the top spot.  Located in the quickly growing community of The Colony this quick-service restaurant serves up big portions of delicious Hawaiian food.  The teriyaki chicken and katsu chicken are perfectly mixed with the steamed rice and mac salad.  As a family-run restaurant, they really put a lot of care into the food and the service.  The chicken in lean and well seasoned.  The mac salad is creamy and simple in its ingredients. The restaurant is on the side of the strip mall building so be sure to drive around the corner to find it.  It also will have a drive-thru option avail
