Best Place to have Super-fantastic Hawaiian BBQ in DFW

When we moved from Spokane to DFW one of the food options I missed right away was authentic Hawaiian BBQ.  I am a huge fan of teriyaki chicken with steamed rice and mac salad, otherwise, know as a blue plate special.  I have searched the DFW area and found three Hawaiian BBQ locations that serve authentic Hawaiian BBQ.

#1 - Shaka Hawaiian BBQ

Shaka Hawaiian BBQ is the newest entry on the list and takes the top spot.  Located in the quickly growing community of The Colony this quick-service restaurant serves up big portions of delicious Hawaiian food.  The teriyaki chicken and katsu chicken are perfectly mixed with the steamed rice and mac salad.  As a family-run restaurant, they really put a lot of care into the food and the service.  The chicken in lean and well seasoned.  The mac salad is creamy and simple in its ingredients.
The restaurant is on the side of the strip mall building so be sure to drive around the corner to find it.  It also will have a drive-thru option available.  There is plenty of indoor seating here and they can handle groups of different sizes.

#2 Hawaiian Brothers Island Grill
Hawaiian Brothers is a chain of fast-casual Hawaiian restaurants that opened 4 locations in the DFW area in the summer of 2021.  I visited the location on Precinct road during their first month of being open and was very pleased with the quality of their chicken plate.  The chicken was very flavorful and had marinated in the sauce a while as it had a bold flavor.  I believe that they must use a combination of breast and thigh meat, which meant that some pieces were a little dryer than I am used to and that I prefer.  The macaroni salad was had excellent flavor and was in good proportion to the rice.

They have small cups of extra teriyaki sauce available that are commercially package to be shelf stable which was really nice.  They offer a craft cream soda and craft root bear along with other options like Diet Dr. Pepper in the soda fountain.  I really enjoyed the cream soda.  There are other food items available including Musubi which I tried and thought it was ok.

#3  Annas Island Grill

Annas Island Grill is another family from the islands cooking up some delicious authentic Hawaain food.  I have had the teriyaki chicken blue plate and the Musabi here on multiple occasions and have always been delighted with the food.

You know that your order is fresh because they do not start cooking it until you have placed your order.  This means that you should expect to have about a 10-minute wait once you have ordered your food.
While the food is top notch, the seating here is very limited with only about three tables inside and three tables outside.  This is a real challenge in the hot summer months if you do not get one of the seats inside.

#4 L&L Hawaiian Barbeque
L&L is a franchised chain of Hawaiian BBQ that is big on the islands but is very limited in other parts of the country.  When I first started hunting for places to quench my Hawaiian BBQ urge it was the only authentic place that I could find.  The food tastes great and you can get the teriyaki blue plate special here.  The chicken here does not show the same care as the others when it is prepped so it is a little fattier than the other locations mention in this post.
Located in a strip mall it is easy to find from the street, although traffic in this portion to the town can be difficult to navigate.
