On our last night in San Francisco, we visited with a couple at the table next to us at the restaurant.  They obviously knew good food based on what we had just eaten, and somehow we got on the topic of dumplings.  They shared with us that their favorite place for dumplings is Dumpling Home.  Dumpling Home is hidden away in a neighborhood south of downtown and not in the China Town area, so this was a real find. The great news is that the dumplings are the best I have had in my life, and now you know about this amazing hidden gem in San Francisco.

We went to lunch at Dumpling Home right before we caught our flight back home.  Since the timing was a little tight, we showed up about 10-15 minutes before they opened, and a line was already forming.  The line continues to grow after we arrived, so we knew this must be a trendy spot because we were there on a Tuesday at lunch.

It was tough to choose what to eat, so here are some recommendations.  Their signature dish has to be the Juicy Pork Bao which is a pan-seared soup dumpling.  The coupling is placed in a special pan to sear the bottoms of the dumpling.  The flavors are amazing, and the amount of soup inside the dumpling is a treat.  They are very hot when they come out, and they retain their heat very well, so be careful not to burn your tongue with that first bite.  You want to make sure that you can taste everything else.

The next must-have here is the Pork Xiao Long Bao which is the traditional steamed soup dumpling.  They make an amazing version, and they all look so uniform in the steamer basket.  I wish I had enough practice to make dumplings like these at home.

The Dry Cooked Green Beans are a winner as well.  These slightly charred green beans pack a lot of flavor with garlic and a slight saltiness to them. They are crisp but tender, cooked just right to keep all the natural flavors of the bean.  W this dishWe enjoyed this dish multiple times in our San Francisco journey, and they do it right here.

Our final choice was the Shrimp Pork & Chives Dumpling, a tasty blend for the filling steamed to perfection and delivering on all expectations.

It took a couple of minutes for the service to start flowing as they started their lunch rush, but soon the food was coming out from the kitchen, and we were enjoying our lunch.  The food will come out as it is finished instead of all at once.  This is good because you want the dumplings to come out as soon as they are done and not sitting getting cold waiting on another dish.  We could have our amazing final meal in San Francisco and head out to the airport to catch our flight.
