The Old Santa Fe Inn has its roots as a motel along Route 66. It is in a great location, just four blocks from the historic Santa Fe Plaza and two blocks from the Railyards, a new and growing area with breweries, distilleries, restaurants, shopping, and restaurants. If you want to park your car and explore Santa Fe on foot, you have found an ideal spot. The Old Santa Fe Inn is our first choice when making reservations to stay in Santa Fe.
The original portion of the motel has been refurbished with new bathrooms and comfortable guest rooms. You can still feel the motel's history and imagine guests pulling in after journeying across Route 66. When we first started staying here, this was the full extent of the hotel. Over the years, they have built several expansions, and the rooms in the new building are just as magical as the older section of the hotel.
When you pull into the hotel, the main parking area is in the center of the complex. The main office is conveniently located off an outdoor courtyard. The ristras hanging from the beams in the courtyard welcome you to your home in Santa Fe. Ristras are believed to provide health and good luck.
During our most recent stay, we were in the new building in room 61. We had never stayed in this section of the hotel before and were greeted with an impressive lobby with seating for the rooms in this portion of the hotel. The décor and feel are welcoming and comfortable.
Our room was clean and well prepared for our stay. There was a lot of room available for the two queen beds, desk, and the gas fireplace was nice. There was also a small private patio off the back of the room with two outdoor chairs and a table to sit at. The air conditioning unit took a little bit to bring the room temperature down, but once it got there, it kept up nicely, and we were comfortable throughout our stay.
The bathroom was also a generous size. We immediately recognized that the tile floor had radiant heating with its own thermostat. I did not know how much I would appreciate this, but it is incredible. The linens in the bathroom were all of high quality, including the two robes provided for the room. The rain and handheld shower combination kicked my days off with an invigorating shower.
A huge benefit of staying at the Old Santa Fe Inn is the breakfast bar that is included in the room price. There are eggs, bacon, sausage, baked goods, and yogurt/granola. In addition, they offer everything you need to make yourself and a fantastic breakfast burrito. There are large flour tortillas and a flat griddle to warm them on. A bowl of green chile and cheese allows you to top off your burrito with the flavors of New Mexico, which always makes me happy to start the day. Coffee, juice, and tea are also provided for guests.
After four generations of being family-owned, The Old Santa Fe Inn was recently acquired by La Fonda Family Properties. The La Fonda brand has a good reputation and operates some other excellent properties in Santa Fe. We hope to see the quality stay the same as we are used to. It certainly met our expectations during our spring 2022 trip.
