Breweries - Fort Worth, Texas

 The brewery scene in Texas has been growing like crazy after state laws were changed to allow for craft brewing establishments to open.  The Dallas/Fort Worth area now has a wide range of breweries to choose from and this post will be dedicated to those that are located on the west side of the DFW airport.

Located just east of downtown Fort Worth, Cowtown brewery combines great local craft beer with smoky barbeque, a perfect combination in Texas.  There is a large selection of beers on tap, 16 when I visited, covering a wide range of beer styles.  There are seasonal beers so you are able to continually experience new beers.  The food is really good and features Texas barbeque in many of the dishes.

Tucked away off the main road, Shannon brewing provides you a great hideaway to get away from life and enjoy great craft beer on their outdoor patio.  The brewers here are serious about their beers and bring many of the techniques of brewing beer in Ireland, here to north Texas.  They have a good selection of beer and the staff is friendly.  If you get to meet the brewmaster he is very engaging and loves to share his knowledge and passion for beer with you.

Funky Picnic is located in a fun and thriving part of south Fort Worth and is a great place to spend an afternoon enjoying a fresh brew, friends, or for watching a sporting event. The wait staff was extremely pleasant and took great care of us. The brews were pretty good, with a couple of real standouts. My favorite from our first visit was the Peanut Butter Stout that they call Two Peanut Butters, One cup.

Soul Fire brewing is a unique idea, combining a foodcourt style eatery with a combination of beers from their own brewer and a wide range of beers from other craft breweries in the area.  Located in the Roanoke, TX right on Oak street which is claimed to be the unique dining capital of Texas, this brewery has a lot to take in.

I would have never guessed that Arkansas might be the first state that I would have visited all the National Park Sites in.  I only have one left to go.  I always made fun of Arkansas until I actually visited it. Visiting Bethesda Maryland

I have come to Bethesda Maryland a number of times for work and always look forward to returning.  Located north of Washington D.C., I find that it is easy to get to the National Mall and other Washington D.C. attractions, without being in the hustle and bustle.  Bethesda is the home of Walter Reed Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health.  It has a vibrant downtown area with lots of interesting food options. Getting around in Bethesda is easy by car and is close enough to places to stay that you can either walk or take uber.  The Metro goes right through the area as well so it is possible to catch the metro back to Regan National Airport or down to go and see the monuments and museums. California Cheese Trail

 While visiting the Cowgirl Creamery Barn Store in Point Reyes Station, I learned bout the California Cheese Trail from a brochure.  I love the idea of any type of food or beverage trail, so I grabbed the brochures and started looking at them.  I was surprised to learn how many different creameries there were in the state of California.  I enjoy visiting cheese factories and buying cheese directly from the factory where you find many different varieties of cheese that you will not find in stores because they are done in small batches.  We were only able to visit one of the creameries while we were on our trip.  We could have done a lot more if we had known about the cheese trail ahead of time.
