Visiting Page Arizona

Page Arizona was established as a temporary work camp in 1957 when the Glen Canyon Dam was being constructed.  Now it serves as a hub for many of the outdoor activities that are in this area of Southern Utan and Northern Arizona.  We planned our trip to have about 24 hours to explore the area around Page Arizona, and now I realize that you could spend a week or more here and still not experience everything the area has to offer.  The town has just over 7,000 full-time residents and is all about tourism in the area.

Where to Stay:

There are numerous places to stay while you are in page with a wide range of pricing.  The hotels have been built along the north side of town on the hill so that they can claim to have a view of Lake Powell as a part of their marketing.

We stayed in the Courtyard by Marriott Page at Lake Powell.  Wow, I would hate to be the one who answers the phone and has to say that name a hundred times a day.  The Courtyard is a very typical property for Marriott and the rooms are standard with any other Courtyard that you have stayed in.  The rooms were clean and the property was well maintained.  There were two highlights for us about this hotel.  The first is the location, it was easy to get to and is 1.5 miles from the Glen Canyon Dam and only 4.5 miles away from Horseshoe Bend.  The second was the outdoor courtyard with the fire pit.  We had been on the road for a while and our daughter needed some quiet study time so we went to the fire pit and had a cold beer.  It was a nice and relaxing environment where we met some other road warriors and swapped stories and notes.

The Courtyard does have a pool, restaurant, bar and helpful/friendly service.

Where to Eat:

Fiesta Mexicana Restaurant

Food: 4.5 Stars
Service: 4 Stars
Location: 3.5 Stars

Fiesta Mexicana is identified as the best Mexican food in town and you will find that it is likely to be busy during meal hours.  The restaurant has the most amazing artwork carved into the backs of the benches for the booths that really help you know that they embrace the Mexican culture.

The margaritas here were very good and came in the perfect sized glass - otherwise, know as a fishbowl.  Before the meal, they serve you chips, salsa, and cabbage slaw that is amazing.  The slaw is unique and spicy, full of flavors you just want more of.

The food was also very good.  I had the seafood enchiladas that are pictured in the top photo, they were delicious and the sauce was a traditional sauce of seafood enchiladas.  My wife and daughter both got the enchilada trio.  You get to select your sauce from those on the menu or get a combination of sauces as pictured here.  They even had a mole, so that tells you they know their stuff.

We ended the meal with some Sopapillas with strawberry sauce and whip cream.   Fiesta Mexicana was a short drive back to the hotel, thank goodness because we were stuffed!

Ranch House Grill is a great place to get a hearty breakfast before you go out and enjoy all the great outdoor activities in the page area.  We all ordered pretty traditional breakfast items, eggs, hashbrowns and some pancakes.  The service was quick and if felt like a real locals kind of place.

Nemos Fish & Chips

We had lunch at Nemo's right after coming off the trail so the great quality fish and chips really hit the spot. We ordered both fish and chips, and the clam strips and thought that both were delicious.  The fish was cooked perfectly and was nice and flaky.  The clam strips were meaty yet tender and not too chewy.

The owner was very nice and provided us some helpful information about the area that made our travels even better.  The outdoor seating was nice and we had a great visit.
