Visiting Bethesda Maryland
I have come to Bethesda Maryland a number of times for work and always look forward to returning. Located north of Washington D.C., I find that it is easy to get to the National Mall and other Washington D.C. attractions, without being in the hustle and bustle. Bethesda is the home of Walter Reed Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health. It has a vibrant downtown area with lots of interesting food options. Getting around in Bethesda is easy by car and is close enough to places to stay that you can either walk or take uber. The Metro goes right through the area as well so it is possible to catch the metro back to Regan National Airport or down to go and see the monuments and museums.
Where I Stay

The Bethesda Marriott is one of my favorite and most consistently high-quality full-service Marriott properties. It is located in a great spot to jump on a freeway or head down to the downtown Bethesda area. The staff here make this place special, all dedicated to the principles of customer service that Marriott has stood for. The rooms here are pretty standard size but have been updated with hardwood laminate, flat-screen TVs, comfortable beds, and nice walk-in showers.
The hotel has a large gym with everything that you might expect from a local fitness center. There is an outdoor pool which is a fairly nice size and has a large patio with outdoor seating and umbrellas. This area is well landscaped and lets you feel like you have escaped.
The restaurant/bar here is named Coopers Mill and is a Farm to Table style restaurant that focuses on local fare, including a number of seafood options including crab cakes and a sea scallop risotto. Not into seafood, that is ok you can get a steak or even a flatbread if you are looking for something a little lighter. They have a selection of local craft brews on tap as well as a full bar.

Sala Thai
There are a number of Thai restaurants in the area, but Sala Thai is a safe option for great traditional Thai food. When I went I had the Tom Kah soup that highlighted the flavors of lemon graass and kafir lime with tender bites of chicken and straw mushrooms. It was great for a cold spring day. The druken noodles were perfect and the daily special of pumpkin curry was fantastic. Sala Thai is in a great location, with a helpful and friendly staff and also offers a full bar. The pricing here is very fair and it is a good value. They do take reservations and also offer carry out.

Talia's Cuzina is a Mediterranean kitchen made fresh and with great flavor profiles. The chef-owner has a passion for Mediterranean food and has had articles published in the local paper about his belief in old-world flavors. They have an interesting selection of food options on the menu from wraps to tacos, salads to pasta. The food was good but not outstanding on the day that I went, however, based on the reviews this may not have been normal. (Read More)
