Visiting Georgetown Colorado
Georgetown is an old gold mining town located less than an hour from downtown Denver. Growing up in Colorado, Georgetown was just one of the small towns you drove by while going somewhere else. Now Georgetown is a great place to visit and use as a base camp for more exploring in the area. The town of Georgetown has changed over the years in a very positive way but has maintained a lot of its old mountain charm.
Georgetown is known for the Victorian houses built here back in the 1800s, and many of them are still standing and well maintained. Many of the yards are full of flowers during the summer, making for a beautiful town to explore.

The Microtel Inn & Suites is a new property in Georgetown and sits on the west end of Lake Georgetown. I was nicely surprised at the quality of the location, and because it was so new, everything was in really nice shape. The room is a pretty standard hotel room with comfortable beds and a clean bathroom.
The hotel is conveniently located just off the frontage road, so getting to the main part of Georgetown or back on the highway is easy. The Cabin Creek Brewery is located right next door to the hotel, so you can enjoy some craft beers and walk back to your room. Cabin Creek also has food, but the night we were there, they stopped serving food early for some reason, and we had to go elsewhere to eat dinner.
The Tom Bennhoff Lake Trail is a 1.6-mile trail that goes around the perimeter of Georgetown Lake. You can easily walk to this trail from the hotel and get a warm-up hike in or enjoy the sunset while walking around the lake.
When you book, you can opt to pay a little extra to get a lake view. I opted to get one of these rooms, and while I could see the lake, it really is not a lake view. Directly behind the hotel is a dirt lot that is the backside of the Cabin Creek brewery with a collection of miscellaneous stuff. I am not convinced that I would need to pay extra for this view in the future.

Coopers on the Creek is a popular, more upscale establishment located at the roundabout as you come off the highway. The night that we went, there was a 45-minute wait at 7:00 PM, but we could sit at the bar and get dinner. They have a nice selection of beer and wine at the bar. The beer selection is an interesting mix of colorado craft breweries and other craft breweries from around the country. The styles variety is nice, and you can find something that will fit your preferences.
We started out with the Truffle Fries ($8). The fries were topped with truffle oil and asiago cheese. It was well done and an upscale way to start out our meal.
Their menu offers salads, six different burger options, and a large selection of dinner entrees from steaks, salmon, and even a duck pot pie. We focused on the burgers because we were hungry from our hike that day, and they sounded great.
Candied Hog BurgerThe Candied Hog Burger is built with a beef patty topped with chile dusted candied bacon, gorgonzola cheese, and black garlic aioli. This was my choice, and it really delivered on flavor. The bacon was cooked perfectly and was nice thick slices that provided a nice sweet flavor.
Zen BurgerThe Zen Burger is a beef patty topped with caramelized onion, goat cheese, arugula, and Meyer lemon jalapeno preserves. I got to taste this one, and it was delicious; the goat cheese hits the home run on this burger.
Albuquerque BurgerThe Alburquerque Burger brings the Southwest straight into Georgetown by topping a beef patty with Hatch green chiles and cheddar cheese. The simplest of the burgers that we ordered but a classic green chile cheeseburger.

Amazing but true, there is a good Vietnamese restaurant in Georgetown. After our big hike up, Grays and Torreys were ready to get some food but did not want to eat a heavy meal. Our cravings turned to Vietnamese vermicelli bowls, and we decided to give Pho Bay a shot. The restaurant is situated alongside Clear Creek as it makes its way through town. An outdoor patio next to the creek is awesome for keeping your outdoor vibe going after a hike.
The Vermicelli bowl was very traditional. We got the grilled pork and eggroll option which is our normal order. There were lots of fresh vegetables in the bowl and a generous portion of the pork. The pork was not quite as caramelized as I am used to and could have had a little more lemongrass flavor. For being in the middle of the mountains, they really delivered.
